I read this post thinking three things.
First, that nothing of this is new to me, that’s it’s mostly true and that I’ve already heard all of it in the Israeli media.
Second, that this explanation is so much less effective than the visual Hammas propaganda, be it fictional or real images, and hereby lies the weakness of the Israeli message. This text could be so much more convincing if it were full of links to prove its point…
And third, I read it and realized it is a little too one-sided, so much so that it sounds conspiratorial. It neglects to mention, for instance, that the main reasons for Israel’s sudden interest in the well-being of its citizens is motivated mainly by the coming elections next month.
Other than that, I agree with every word.
To respond to your comments Yuval:
1. Yes, it’s nothing new for us. But then again, I didn’t post it for our benefit specifically. I did partially do it to vent at about all the bullcrap in the news media that pisses me off.
2. I ABSOLUTELY agree that no intelligently written letter, no matter how correct and accurate, will NEVER be able to trump people’s emotional response of “OH NOSE, THEY BOMBED TEH KIDZ” type of propaganda so typical of Arab terrorist organizations.
3. I disagree that it sounds conspiratorial, however, you are absolutely correct that it neglects to mention that our response was totally politically motivated. The gov’t has been neglecting this problem for years, at the expense of the people who attempt to live there. Elections roll around the corner, and all of a sudden the politicians suddenly care about the plight of the poor people of shderot… We should have dealt with this problem years ago and not waited until election eve.
